babenimue asked:

Is there an average price per sq ft for remodeling (adding a 2nd story) to our existing house in Los Angeles? can anybody give us a ballpark figure?

Knee-jerk response…..an arm, a leg, and your firstborn.

On second thought, I think it's around $200 a square foot.

That's not an average remodel, so you'll need to call a good contractor. JP Construction is good in that area.

I don't think anybody can give you a ballpark for this project without actually seeing it. Another thing is: are you trying to get an estimate for the addition (that's something only a general contractor can help you with) or to determine the cost of designer's services? ( Adding a story and remodeling are two different things:)). If you are looking for designer's quote: that depends on the designer, but i know that in LA, you are probably looking at at least $5.00-$10.00 per sq.ft. plus the markup, or anywhere from $100 - $250.00/ hour. So, if it is a designer you are looking for, i would be happy to take on your project (no matter how small or large it is) at a very reasonable cost! I am trying to put together my portfolio and will go a mile out of my way to get a client and give 100% to the job! If interested, please e-mail me at:! Otherwise, your best bet is to look for a good general contractor in your area.
